purl soho...really?

ive read SO many blog posts about purl soho in NYC...never thought i would ever go there...then my oldest brother moved to NY...not to the city, but north a little ways near albany...so we went to visit and spent 2 whirlwind days in NYC...my only requirement...a stop at purl soho...you can imagine that my brother was super excited!! haha!

this was my only purchase...trust me...i used a lot of restraint!! it's a fat quarter bundle of quilters linen and it's SO pretty...i've been back in iowa for a week and it's still sitting on my table, tied up neatly. i stare at it when i walk by...i even pick it up and stare at it sometimes!
no idea what i'm going to make with it yet, but i couldn't leave purl soho without making a purchase...it's SO my kind of bundle...i'm in LOVE with all things rainbow! im going to have to find the perfect project...one that will help me to remember my first visit (hopefully not last) to NYC!
thanks for stopping by!

better late than never...

this is a baby quilt that i made several months ago for a former co-worker...she had her baby girl in march, i haven't seen her since, but i've been holding onto this little gem. i decided that i need to clean out my sewing space and in doing so i sent this in the mail instead of hand delivering it...shame i know...but i didn't know when i would see them again and if it was in my sewing room it was doing the baby any good! so off it went and now i have one less item in my sewing space! hope they use it and enjoy it every day!

i used whimsy by fig tree for moda...i fell in love with these fabrics while i was in my local quilt shop one day. i wish i would have bought more of them, but at the time i didn't know what i was going to use them for and i really need fabric like i need another hole in my head! so i just got 1/2 yard cuts of 4 different fabrics, and i used every stinking inch of each one in this quilt! i love the back...one of my favorites so far.

the quilt is pretty small overall. if i remember correctly it is 28x40. it's all i could do with what i had!
thanks for stopping by!

Dr. Seuss Baby

Ha! So 3 months ago I posted that I was going to be more regular about blog posts...hehehe...here's my first one!
Oh Well...sometimes...life happens!
Anywho...here's my most recent work...I FINALLY cut into my Dr. Seuss fabric...lots of babies on the way in my neck of the woods...and what's more fun than Dr. Seuss...especially if the baby's gender is a surprise!
The quilt measures 34ishx36ish and the pattern is from the February 2012 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting the pattern is Fabric Fusion.
The back of the quilt

The burpies

The "on the go" diaper and wipes holder

the portable changing pad (the back is minky and the inside is water proof)

the tag blanket

So much fun to make and I LOVE the rainbow colors! I kind of wanted to keep the changing pad for myself! I showed restraint and gave it to the lovely mother to be...I sure hope they use all the gifts until they are competely worn out! That's why I made them!

peace,
suzi

p.s. sorry about the pictures....camera issues.

Promise

I'm making a promise to myself...
Starting now...
I'm going to make posts to my blog on a regular basis. Period.
It's been almost a year since I've made a post. I follow other blogs (some almost religiously), but I've let mine go.
Here's to a new blog future...to keep track of all the things I craft and all the blessings in my life.

New Bag

i'm SOOOOOOO excited about this!!! i posted a hint about this before...now the final result is here!!

i have a confession to make...i don't understand purses...or the obsession that follows them. i just don't. never have. as a twenty-something...you'd think that i've kept up on the purse trend...not so much...i think i've actually only owned 3 purses!

now that being said, i did make one a few weeks ago to replace the one that i had been using for the past 3 years...but this...THIS is SO much cooler!!!

i made this bag with no pattern (which seems to be more my style). i knew that i wanted it to be square and nearly the size of a cereal box...my brain (a.k.a. my hubby) helped me figure out some tricky measurements and seams, and also imparted his own creative genius. because of hubby...this bag has a piece of poly (plastic to me) neatly sewn into the bottom, so it's always flat and sturdy. the grommets, rings, and magnet were also his handi-work...i'm SO glad i have him around...and that he supports all my crazy crafting projects!

SOOOOOOO without further a-doo...here she is...

she's got 2 pockets on the outside and 5 pockets on the inside. and she's going to get used for the 1st time next week!!! eeeeeeekkkkk...i'm so excited...(and she's too big for a daily purse...so she'll only get used for special occassions!!)

Block 7 & 8

here are my QUILT-A-LONG block 7 and block 8. i was trying to stay caught up, but got a little behind...now i'm right back with it!!

i'm pleased with block 7. more-so than i thought i would be...i'm not a fan of triangles, but i think this block is super cute!
block 8 is my favorite favorite favorite block so far...it might be hard to top this one...i LOVE the disappearing 9 patch...and i LOVE that it's so versatile...it can take on some many different personalities...quiltalities???
here are my 1st 8 blocks all together...there's some trimming that needs to be done...my blocks aren't all the same size, but that's easily remedied....right?? (at least i sure hope so!)
i can't believe that this quilt-a-long is almost over! i've had such a great time...and i've learned so many things...can't wait for the next one!
